As a PhD you might ask yourself: Do I need to start thinking about my career after my PhD?

The sooner you make the connection between your ambitions, skills or missing skills, development opportunities and the current jobs market, the better you will be able to prepare yourself for your future employment! There are plenty of opportunities available to develop yourself for the next step. Take charge of your career and get to know your true drives and values at our LAP Career Event 2019!

Program
Besides a free lunch & drinks, this event will consist of two keynote lectures, a parallel workshop session and an interactive debate. The first keynote is focused on the preparation for future employment in the industry, specifically as a PhD. In the second keynote Leiden Bioscience Park (LBSP) will introduce themselves as a potential future employer. Next the workshops will provide useful tools and insights to better prepare you towards your next career step. Finally, a professional journalist will mediate a debate session with a variety of professionals that chose a range of different professions after obtaining their PhD’s. You are encouraged to engage with them during this interactive plenary session!

Last, but not least, a career fair will be open during the entire event. Approach a variety of companies and organisations and broaden your network!

After participation the PhDs/post-docs have broadened their view on:

  • Career options after your PhD/post-doc
  • Useful preparations for making the next step in your career
  • The opportunities on the jobs market, specifically the Leiden Bioscience Park
  • How to look for opportunities on the job market

Mindfulness-Based stress reduction

After attending this MBSR workshop you will:

  • have a basic understanding of the many causes of stress
  • have an understanding of the effects of stress
  • have an understanding of the difference between a stress reaction and a stress response
  • have a basic understanding of what mindfulness encompasses
  • know how MBSR was developed means and how MBSR techniques can be utilized in your daily life;
    know how to apply some basic mindfulness techniques in your daily life.
  Write CV's that get interviews
Olag Pougovkina & Gabriele Romgnoli
An effective CV is the first step toward the next step in your career. Understanding how to present your achievements and hard work can be tricky. Olga and Gabriele moved into industry after their PhD and since then screened hundreds of CVs. Learn from them how to write a CV that gets interviews in a fun and interactive workshop. On top of that, you will also get a chance to ask questions about their experience and get an impression of how a day in industry really looks like.
